There's a reason why action films want to cast Tom Cruise - one of today's highest-paid actors - and the numbers from his latest film's weekend debut certainly spell it out.
His futuristic sci-fi flick Oblivion took the number one spot at the box office this weekend with $38.1 million, bumping down last week's top film 42 down to second place with $18 million. The animated family film The Croods stayed put at number three with a solid $9.5 million while Scary Movie 5 fell two spots to number four with $6.2 million. G.I. Joe: Retaliation rounded out the top five with $5.7 million.

‘Evil Dead’ Remake Promises to Be the Scariest Film You’ll See
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Classics, Horror, Remakes, Distribution, Upcoming Releases,
The folks behind the Evil Dead remake are pretty confident that the new film will scare your socks skin off - according to the film's new poster, anyway.
With folks from the original on board (Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are producing) and Jennifer's Body writer Diablo Cody aiding with the script, perhaps the new version won't be all that bad. Then again, remaking such a cult-classic like Evil Dead is risky business! The film hits theaters April 12, 2013.

Lily Collins Set For Evil Dead Remake
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Classics, Horror, Remakes, Casting, Celeb News, Scripts,
Lily Collins is set to star in the Evil Dead remake. The Mirror Mirror star - daughter of singer Phil Collins - is being lined up to take on the role of Mia, who is one of the five friends who decide to take an ill-advised trip to a remote cabin in the woods.
Just like the original film, the group of pals discover a dusty tomb known as The Necronomicon, from which reading a passage out loud results in chaos with the release of flesh-possessing demons. Lily's character has recently suffered a drug overdose and is looking forward to a weekend of detox at the cabin. So when she starts claiming to have been attacked by the trees outside, her friends just assume it's some sort of post-traumatic paranoia.
The remake of the 1981 film will be directed by Fede Alvarez from a script co-written with Rodo Sayagues and Diablo Cody, Bloody Disgusting reports. It is due for release in April 2013.

Here’s the latest scoop on the sequel buzz spreading across Hollywood:
Hairspray: Earlier this summer, New Line announced plans to produce a Hairspray follow. Unfortunately, the studio - which has already asked John Waters to write a treatment - may have a major casting issue to deal with. In a recent interview with Australia’s Sunday Herald Sun, John Travolta said he wasn’t looking forward to putting Edna Turnblad’s fat suit back on. “I think once is enough. I did it and I did it well but I’m not a big sequel guy,” the Look Who’s Talking Too star claimed. No other stars from the original cast have yet been confirmed for the new musical.

Bruce Campbell Gives Evil Dead Fans Hope
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Horror, Sequels, Comedy, Rumors,
At last months Comic-Con, Sam Raimi told MTV that the chances of seeing another Evil Dead installment was very good.
“If the financing ever fell in place right. But first, I’d have to work on the script with my brother [Ivan Raimi]. And that’s something I’m hoping to find the time to do.”
But even if the busy director (Spider-Man) found time to craft another one for the “few weirdoes” out there, would Bruce Campbell even be interested? I mean, it’s already been 15 years since Ash faced off against the dead in Army of Darkness.
