IMAX Tickets for Avatar Already on Sale

Avatar posterIt’s never too early to start buying Christmas presents…or ordering movie tickets.

is not even scheduled to open for another four months, but those eager to get good seats can guarantee their spots now. AMC has already begun selling tickets to midnight showings at 75 theaters. Most of those locations are IMAX venues.

James Cameron’s 3D sci-fi entry received good worth of mouth after an extended preview on IMAX screens last week. (You can view a teaser trailer here.) It was this overwhelming interest that prompted the theater chain to begin advance purchases.

“They said that if all these people are going to come to our theater to see 16 minutes of a film that doesn’t open until December, let’s give them an opportunity to buy tickets to the first performances of the show itself,” Chris Aronson, Fox’s Senior VP of Distribution, said.

Since the film’s running time hasn’t been confirmed, only midnight viewings are available at this time. Avatar opens on December 18.

IMAX Delay for Half-Blood Prince

Half-Blood Prince posterWarner Bros. may be sticking firm to its third Half-Blood Prince release date, but that won’t prevent delays for the film.

Due to a conflict with a previously scheduled blockbuster, most IMAX theaters (aside from one in New York in one in LA) will not be able to show Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince until July 29. That equates to a two-week delay from the July 15 premiere.

What will be occupying those theaters up until that point? . The Paramount feature has a month-long commitment starting with its June 26 debut.

Dark Knight Set to Re-Release in January

Warner Bros. set to re-release The Dark Knight in January

Warner Bros. now has plans to re-release Christopher Nolan’s record-breaking Batman sequel this January.

While I initially heard the news of The Dark Knight‘s re-release plan, I was excited to see that it may have a second chance to break Titanic‘s record; however, I was met with disappointment to discover that their motives linked to more materialistic goal named Oscar.

January is the prime voting season for the Academy Awards, and those determined folks at Warner Bros. don’t want anyone over there to forget about that impressive summer blockbuster of theirs.
