Woman in Black Sequel Planned

Woman in BlackA Woman in Black follow-up is in development. Studio Hammer is teaming with Alliance Films and Cross Creek Pictures to work on the project, which will be called The Woman in Black: Angels of Death and will take place 40 years after the original movie.

Jon Croker - who worked as a story editor on the first film - will write the picture, with Roy Lee executively producing. It is not believed Daniel Radcliffe, who played the leading character in the first movie, will return as the story will focus on a couple who move into eerie Eel Marsh House four decades after the setting of the original. No director has yet been signed up either.

The Woman in Black has so far taken $120 million at the box office internationally, and marked the first major movie for Daniel following his career in the Harry Potter franchise. Speaking about his break away from playing the boy wizard previously, Daniel revealed his working from a young age made him protective over other youngsters on set:

Daniel Radcliffe Learned From Potter Mistakes

Woman in Black posterDaniel Radcliffe believes the Harry Potter franchise has been a "double-edged sword."

The 22-year-old actor shot to fame playing the titular boy wizard in all seven movies and while he learned a lot from the films, he admits it was hard to see his acting shortcomings played out in public while he honed his craft. "It's only recently I've become aware of the problems people had with me in the films. And, you know, people are obviously entitled to their opinions. But we learn from our mistakes. You know, I'm at the age most actors would be when they've learned from their mistakes in private and done drama school for three years. It's a double-edged sword. I had the amazing privilege of working with these fantastic actors for 10 years and learning from them, but I also had - we all did - the slight curse of somebody seeing, basically, our acting exercises."

Daniel believes his acting has improved massively working on his new film The Woman In Black because he had learned to connect with his emotions: "The emotional stuff is the trickiest, absolutely. And that's why I feel I made some strides in this film because actually, for the first time, I felt able to really allow my own emotions to come out through the character. I know it sounds bizarre to say this now, but it was a fairly new experience for me, for whatever reason. I think I had a sense of it on the last Potter, but not before then."

Sneak Peek: Daniel Radcliffe in Non-Potter Movie

We’re just getting out first look at Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe in a new feature film that isn’t about a teenage wizard -- and he looks pretty grown up.

Radcliffe is playing Arthur Kipps in The Woman in Black, produced by Hammer Films.

Kipps is a lawyer, sent to a remote area to manage the affairs of a recently deceased client. Once there, he’ll find the title movie character, a “mysterious woman dressed only in black.” He’ll end up trying to find out who she is in a “race against time.”

Hammer Films is known for period pieces and gothic films.

Daniel Radcliffe Undergoes Psychological Preparation

Daniel Radcliffe is seeing a psychologist to prepare for a new film role.

The star is taking research for his new movie horror thriller The Woman In Black so seriously he is seeing a specialist with expertise in grief and loss to prepare as best he can, drawing on the loss of his own grandmother Elsie.

“The preparation has been difficult. Daniel is filming a mature, complex role and wants to understand his character’s emotion,” a source said.

Daniel plays young lawyer Arthur Kipps in the movie, a young man who must visit the estate of a deceased client, later discovering he is not alone in the property. The movie - based on the book by Susan Hill - is being adapted by Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman and My Little Eye scripter James Watkins.

Daniel, 21, previously admitted he was “excited” by the movie, his first since completing work on the Harry Potter series: “I am incredibly excited to be part of The Woman In Black. Jane Goldman’s script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure. It is thrilling to be working with James Watkins. From his brilliant work on Eden Lake and also having met him and heard his vision for the film, I know he will make a fantastic film.”

The movie, which is being shot in 3-D, is due for release in 2011.
