No matter how you feel about Tim Burton‘s uneven work (Mars Attacks? Planet of the Apes?), there’s one thing that cannot be denied: His films are a visual treat.
Next year, the director will introduce Alice in Wonderland, an adaptation of the Lewis Carroll story. The movie, which uses live action and performance-capture technology, will be offered in 3-D.

Getting Into Character: Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Disney, Adaptation, Family, Casting, Rumors

Given all the characters we’ve seen Johnny Depp take on, is the Mad Hatter really a stretch?
Although the circumstances behind this image have not yet been confirmed, it’s believed this picture is of the 45-year-old on the Alice in Wonderland set. Since the Tim Burton film will be incorporating live action and performance-capture technology a la Beowulf, it’s not clear how this costume may fit into the Lewis Carroll update.
The 2010 release also features Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Helena Bonham Carter (the Red Queen), Anne Hathaway (the White Queen), Michael Sheen (the Cheshire Cat) and Crispin Glover (the Knave of Hearts).

Anne Hathaway Added to Alice in Wonderland Cast
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Disney, Adaptation, Family, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases
Who knew a horrible breakup could kick off the best part of one’s career?
In the last few weeks, Anne Hathaway has done a superb job moving past the issues in her personal life. She’s braved uncomfortable interviews, earned Oscar buzz for Rachel Getting Married and made people laugh on Saturday Night Live. (You can see one of her SNL sketches after the jump.) Now Anne’s adding a high-profile project to her resume.
It’s just been announced that Hathaway will be the latest star to join Alice in Wonderland. The Tim Burton film - which already boasts Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter - also features Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Hathaway is scheduled to play the White Queen.

Helena Bonham Carter on Leave from Terminator Salvation
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Science Fiction, Sequels, Celeb News
A personal tragedy has forced Helena Bonham Carter to temporarily stop work on Terminator Salvation.
The 42-year-old, who had been filming in New Mexico, has reportedly been given indefinite leave after a fatal minibus crash.
The incident, which happened Wednesday in South Africa, killed four of Helena’s relatives. The group had been on safari when the tire of their VW van supposedly blew out, causing the vehicle to roll.
Although Fiona Bonham Carter (the actress’ cousin) survived the accident, her 14-year-old son, mother, stepfather and sister-in-law were all killed. Fiona’s 16-year-old son and brother also survived.
Helena and boyfriend Tim Burton are both said to be traveling to Britain to support the family.

Box Office Breakdown: Atonement Joins Juno in Top Ten
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: DreamWorks, FOCUS, Disney, Fox Searchlight, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Drama, Family, Foreign, Horror, Music, Musicals, Period, Political, Romance, Science Fiction, Sequels, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Lists, New Releases

When the final numbers were tallied on Monday, something exciting happened at the top of the charts. After a very close race, Juno surpassed I Am Legend for the second place finish. (National Treasure was tops for its third week in a row.) Already in its fifth week, the comedic charmer continued its steady climb up the box office ladder. After gaining five spots last week, Juno rose another two spots this weekend. (A wider release contributed to this feat.) If the movie continues at its current pace, it is expected to be the most successful film from Fox Searchlight. Sideways grossed $71.5 million while last year’s darling, Little Miss Sunshine, earned $59.9 million.
Meanwhile, another praised film is slowly making an ascent in its fifth week. Atonement, starring ribby Keira Knightley and James McAvoy (the man who has replaced Ewan McGregor), made its first entry into the Top Ten. Although the Golden Globe-nominated drama is only being seen in about 1/6 of the theaters Treasure is in, Atonement had a per screen average of $8687. In comparison, the Nicolas Cage film only had a $5332 median.
